It has been a privilege to represent the amazing communities of East Hartford and Manchester as state representative. I have been honored to have been involved in working on some of the most complex and important decisions in our state’s history. I have met many, many residents of the 9th Assembly District and learned about their lives, their goals and have assisted them with questions, challenges and needs of all types.

I was born in East Hartford in 1976 after my parents moved there with my brother and sister. I attended Silver Lane School, East Hartford Middle School and graduated from East Hartford High School. I was the first in my family to go to college and I graduated from the University of Connecticut where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History. I continued my studies at Trinity College where I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Sarah, and we have three children and two cats named Noodles and Kix.

Service to community has been the focus of my career. I have worked most of my professional career in higher education and I currently serve as the Chief of Staff and Associate Vice President for External Relations at Trinity College. In this role I am responsible for providing executive leadership for the Office of the President including coordination of the college’s senior management team and supporting all responsibilities of the president. My external relations responsibilities require me to engage regularly with trustees of the College, alumni, faculty and staff, students, and families. I also serve as a liaison between the College and the Hartford community while encouraging collaboration between Trinity College and many of its community partners.

I am deeply committed to serving others and that is reflected in both my professional and political experience. I previously served on the Board of Education and Town Council in East Hartford. I began my higher education career at the University of Connecticut, worked briefly for Riverfront Recapture in Hartford, before moving on to the CT State Department of Higher Education. I have served on numerous boards of directors of area organizations including three non-profit housing development organizations, the Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, the Manchester Community College Foundation as well as serving as a founding board member of the East Hartford Alumni Association and Education Foundation.

I am proud to serve the 9th Assembly District, which is composed of parts of East Hartford and Manchester. The district covers much of southeastern East Hartford (Hills Street, Oak Street, Silver Lane, Forbes Street, as well as the Mayberry Village and Sunset Hills neighborhoods) and a portion of southern eastern Manchester (neighborhoods of Keeney and Verplanck elementary schools and Hillstown).

I have been recognized for my work ethic and record of legislative accomplishment by being asked to assume a number of important leadership positions during my time in the General Assembly. In 2020, my colleagues elected me to the position of House Majority Leader, where, among other duties, I am responsible for managing the flow of business on session days. I previously served as Co-Chair of the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee, before that as Co-Chair of the Planning and Development Committee. In addition, I previously served as Deputy Majority Leader and Co-Chair of the House Screening Committee. I also served on the Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee and the Education Committee.

My policy interests include government finance and tax policy, regionalism, affordable housing, education funding and literacy. I deeply value constituent service and encourage voters to contact me with concerns, questions and ideas about how to move our district, communities and state forward.
